Chris Whapples

Chris is a Consultant to Stripe Consulting and has over 50 years experience as a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer. He has designed many different car parks, some of which have won awards and has inspected and repaired numerous older car parks.

He has been involved in the last three updates of the Institution of Structural Engineers Design recommendations for multi-storey and underground car parks. Chris has championed the concept of Life-care planning and is a co-author of ICE Recommendations for Inspection, Maintenance and Management of Car Park Structures.

Representing the British Parking Association, he has worked in association with the Transport Research Laboratory in developing new standards for testing vehicle impact barriers, and with the Building Research Establishment in evaluating fire spread in car parks.

He has written and presented several specialist papers in pursuit of the betterment of car parks, and has also been featured on the BBC Have I Got News for You programme regarding the safety of older car parks when loaded with electric vehicles.
