Head of Future Roads Technology Department for TransportMichael Dnes is head of future roads technology in the Department for Transport, with responsibility for accommodating new and modernised vehicles on the nation’s road network. Previously, he played a key role in the reform of Highways Agency into Highways England, and led the creation of the Second Road Investment Strategy. He is also a published historian of London’s Ringway plans for urban motorways, and runner up in last year’s Richard Koch Breakthrough Prize. He currently chairs a study with the International Transport Forum into adapting roads to prepare for autonomous vehicles, due to publish later this year.
